Back to Church Sunday

Back to Church Sunday (BTCS) is the single largest local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism--we invite someone we already know to our church.  While the initial focus was to invite ‘back’ those who used to attend church, others who do not attend can also be invited, gently encouraged and warmly welcomed. Since 2011, GtC has been supporting and promoting this initiative. For 2017, the international BTCS date is 15 September, but you can also choose another date that is more convenient or better suited for your parish. Regardless of when you decide to hold your BTCS, we have provided the following helpful resources to help you plan:

In addition, you may want to consider rolling out your Back to Church Sunday as a "Season of Invitation," where you invite people to five invitational services, as research has shown that people are more likely to come to church and to keep coming if they are invited several times. The "five seasons" many churches in the northern hemisphere use are the following:

  • Back to Church Sunday--September
  • Harvest--October
  • Remembrance (All Saints Day)--November
  • Advent--early December
  • Christmas--December

Please visit the international Back to Church Sunday website for more details and resources, and please contextual for your environment.
