Back to Church Sunday

Back to Church Sunday (BTCS) is the single largest local-church invitational initiative in the world. It is based on the simplest and shortest step in evangelism--we invite someone we already know to our church. While the initial focus was to invite ‘back’ those who used to attend church, others who do not attend can also be invited, gently encouraged and warmly welcomed. Since 2011, GtC has been supporting and promoting this initiative. For 2016, the international BTCS date is 25 September, but you can also choose another date that is more convenient or better suited for your parish. Regardless of when you decide to hold your BTCS, we have provided the following helpful resources to help you plan:

Here are some videos that you may want to share with your congregation:

In addition, you may want to consider rolling out your Back to Church Sunday as a "Season of Invitation," where you invite people to five invitational services, as research has shown that people are more likely to come to church and to keep coming if they are invited several times. The "five seasons" many churches in the northern hemisphere use are the following:

  • Back to Church Sunday--September
  • Harvest--October
  • Remembrance (All Saints Day)--November
  • Advent--early December
  • Christmas--December

Please visit the international Back to Church Sunday website for more details and resources, and please contextual for your environment.

International Anglicans Ablaze 2016--'Vulindlela': 5-8 October 2016

The next International Anglicans Ablaze Conference will take place from 5 to 8 October 2016 at the beautiful facilities of Bishops Diocesan College, Rondebosch, Cape Town. The overwhelming majority of attendees to the AA 2014 conference voted for Cape Town / Western Cape to be the location for our next conference. The theme will be Vulindlela,' which means 'Open the Way!'

We hope the conference will 'open the way' to:

  • Worshipping God in unity and diversity that 'opens the way' of blessing
  • Promoting a decade of intentional discipleship—calling all Anglicans to walk as Jesus walked, which in turn would lead to transforming power in our communities and beyond.
  • Empowering the church to play an active role in transforming education, poverty and health, including a special focus on the scourge of substance abuse, in our communities
  • Engaging parishoniers in a lifestyle of mission—and sending out 10 to 15 mission teams from the conference.
  • Cultivating spiritual vitality, hearing God and obeying – for a Kairos moment in our region.

Check out the Anglicans Ablaze website for more details.
