In 1847 Robert Gray became the first Bishop of Cape Town
with the commission to plant churches and ordain clergy.
When he died 25 yrs later, the 10 churches that he began
with had grown to 63!
In 2003 Archbishop Ndungane commissioned
Bishop Martin Breytenbach to spearhead an initiative to
become known as “Growing the Church”.
It was launched in 2007 with The Revd Trevor Pearce
appointed as the first Director.
