In 1847 Robert Gray became the first Bishop of Cape Town with the commission to
plant churches and ordain clergy. When he died 25 years later, the 10 churches
that he began with had grown to 63!
In 2003 Archbishop Ndungane commissioned Bishop Martin Breytenbach to spearhead an initiative to become known as “Growing the Church”. It was launched in 2007 with The Revd Trevor Pearce appointed as the first director.
Bishops Mervyn and Jo both came round for "The Tour" of the Growing the Church
office. The coffee must be gooooood!
What's been happening in 2013?
Bishop Margaret had "The Tour" of the Growing the Church office during here visit to Braehead House.
While in London during the
Evangelism and Church Growth Initiative meeting, Trevor
had dinner with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby
Rooted in Jesus was held in the Diocese of George, end of February 2013.
Michael (GtC IT & Media) with the Media Committee for Christ the King Parish, Diocese of Christ the King. He also spent time advising the Media Committee of The Diocese of St Mark the Evangelist in Polokwane and The Parish of St Francis of Assisi in Alberton, Diocese of The Highveld.

Trevor with many friends attended the Christian Leadership Indaba held in Johannesburg. Michael and Trevor also recorded Archbishop Thabo's address to be played at the Indaba as he could not attend.
